Against the Wind

The last two days have been perfect for Rob and me. Both days were about 50 miles and both days were primarily down hill. We finished by 2 PM and lounged (or slept) the rest of each day.

BUT, one of the reasons we chose this route is because the prevailing winds go from West to East. Unfortunately, someone forgot to remind the prevailing winds. So far this trip, we have encountered only head winds. Even today, we had to pedal going down hill, as the wind was stronger than our weight. How demoralizing! Tomorrow was scheduled to be the longest ride of the trip (118 miles), but the weather from a wind perspective is not looking good — winds are projected to be 10-15 mph, with even higher gusts, and even higher for Friday. That would be great if it were coming from the west, but no — it’s projected to be coming from the southeast, exactly the direction we’ll be traveling.

The die hard riders in the group headed out this afternoon and did the first 40 miles of tomorrow’s ride. In the morning, we’ll all drive the first 40 miles and then see how much of the remaining 80 we can do. Fingers crossed for us!
