Hello Louisiana and 2/3 of the Ride is Done!

Texas didn’t want us to leave. The day started with double digit headwinds and continued for the entire ride — as if the state was pushing us to stay. Big surprise there. We have by now decided that the concept of prevailing westerly winds is a myth. But the headwinds could not hold us back — we exited the state just after lunch. Another huge milestone!

We are 2/3 through the ride — having now completed 1,942 miles!

Today is another day off, so we are 2 nights in De Ridder, LA – or, as my mom said, De Riders are in De Ridder! So far we have stayed in 27 hotels. Admittedly, on several occasions I have forgotten which room we were in. On another matter, I have worn the same pair of shorts every single evening for nearly a month. It will be nice to wear something different when this ride is over. As for today, it’s laundry and bike cleaning and do as little as possible day. There is something to be said for a good bike cleaning — you go from very creaky gears to smooth sailing- it’s a nice feeling.

Tomorrow – on the road again as we head 77 miles to Ville Platte – and guess what, no headwinds predicted!!! And, not that anyone is counting, but there are only 13 riding days left – wow!

  1. Congratulations on surviving Texas! We’ve caught up on the last week and can’t help but marvel at your awesomeness – we like the superhero AI transformations – cause this is happening IRL for you :). Hugh & BJ
