Yesterday would have been an easy 75 mile ride day. It was flat as flat can be, the roads were smooth and traffic was limited. Rob and I got an early jump out of Columbus so that we would stay ahead of the fast riders as long as possible (that lasted until the second water stop!). The morning was brisk and cool, so we wore warmer clothes to start — and I stupidly did not drink enough. By lunch, it was too late to catch up, and I was totally dehydrated and could barely get out of my chair. I jumped in the van and drank 40 oz over the next 15 miles, and was able to finish the ride for a total of 65. Thank goodness it’s a supported ride. The last 10 coming in to El Paso were pretty hairy – it was rush hour and we were on very busy roads — but we all made it to the hotel by 4 and had a terrific BBQ dinner. On to a town called Fabens today – it’s an easy ride — only 40 miles and we’re going to a well known steakhouse for dinner.
Could you of ever imagined saying “an easy 75 mile ride day”! Congratulations on riding strong! You’ll miss those hills when you get back home. Keep blogging. I’m living vicariously through it!
